If you just had body work done on your vehicle, more than likely, your vehicle will need to be painted as well. If you want to paint your vehicle on your own, you need to understand how to prepare your car for paint. The preparation process is just as important as the painting process, which is why you need to make sure you prepare everything properly.

1. Cover Up the Windows

First, you are going to want to cover up all the windows. Paint on your windows can be really annoying to have to scrape off, so you can save yourself hours of labor scraping the paint off your windows by covering your windows up with nice, thick paper. Don't use newspaper to cover your windows, as the newspaper's ink can bleed onto your windows, leaving a mess as well. You also don't want to use cheap paper that will just soak up the paint and end up stuck to your windows. Use high-quality, thick paper to protect your windows and use painting tape to secure the paper to the windows.

2. Protect the Wheels

Second, you are going to need to protect your wheels. You don't want to paint to get on your rims, or get on your brake calipers. It can be even trickier to remove paint from your rims and brake calipers, which is why it is best to cover up your rims and tires to keep the paint off them.

When it comes to protecting your tires, you are going to want to take plastic and wrap it around your tires. Try to cover your tires from all possible angles. This will keep your rims, tires, and brakes looking just like they did before you started painting. Your rims will shine and look great with your new paint job, so be sure to take the time to protect your rims.

3. Think About the Inside

Finally, you need to think about the inside of your vehicle as well. You don't want paint to seep through to the inside of your vehicle around the doors. To keep things clean inside of your vehicle. You are going to want to put up paper around the inside frame of your doors. You are also going to want to use tape to seal up the cracks around your doors to keep things clean inside of your vehicle while you refresh the outside of your vehicle.

When it comes to painting your vehicle after it has undergone auto body repair, be sure to take the preparation process seriously. If you don't feel up to the task, hire a professional auto body shop to take care of the body damage and paint your vehicle at the same time.
