A collision in your luxury car can be stressful, especially since you likely love your vehicle. Fortunately, the right shop can make it like new again. 

1. Check the Certifications

Nearly any reputable collision repair shop will be certified, as will the technicians and mechanics on duty. With a luxury car, you may want to go a step further and check that the shop and mechanics that will be working on your car have been certified by the manufacturer to work on your specific type of vehicle. Higher-end luxury car manufacturers often provide both certification and recertification options for technicians, which is training that ensures they have the knowledge to do what is best for your car.

2. Consider Panel Replacements

You may be given the choice to have damaged body panels hammered out or repaired with a filler. Although this may be cheaper, it can lower the value of your higher-end vehicle. If you want to ensure the repair affects the vehicle's value as little as possible, then a better option is to have badly damaged body panels completely replaced. 

3. Go With OEM Parts

OEM stands for "original equipment manufacturer." This means that the parts are the manufacturer's recommended component for the vehicle. Aftermarket parts may be made to fit your car, but they have not been tested and approved by the manufacturer. Although aftermarket parts may be less expensive, choosing these may affect warranties or the value of the vehicle. Aftermarket parts also may not perform as well as the OEM parts, so it pays to invest in originals. 

4. Be Picky About Paint

If your luxury car suffered paint damage, verify that the shop can access the factory paint color. Some hues are only available direct from the manufacturer. A shop can often do a close color match, but in the right light the repair may be noticeable. This isn't desirable with a higher-end vehicle. It may take longer if the paint needs to be ordered, but using the original paint will look much better in the long run.

5. Select a Full Service Shop

A full service shop will do more than just fix the body damage. They will also have the tools and training to repair anything that may have been damaged under the hood, as well as hidden problems like frame damage. Luxury cars may need special tools or diagnostic techniques, which a full service shop will be able to provide.
